The First Edition has this wonderful Rudyard Kipling first edition children’s illustrated book for sale entitled Animal Stories. Animal Stories was published by Macmillan and Co Limited [London] in 1932.
Animal Stories has a reference to a character from The Jungle Book at the beginning, with the frontispiece entitled: “The Water Cannot Live Long” said Baloo. This frontispiece belongs to the story ‘How Fear Came’, which also features Mowgli.
The original red decorated boards are in Very Good condition which has fading; creases to the spine; and slight tear to the cloth at the top of the spine that goes through the word “Animal”, without any loss.
There are 214 numbered pages containing 19 Rudyard Kipling songs and stories for children; 8 full colour plates by Stuart Tresilian, and numerous line drawings throughout, many of which spread across two pages. The pages are in overall Very Good condition being extremely clean and firmly bound in, though there are some cracks to internal hinges which are cosmetic and consistent with age and type of book.
